Renewal

Inspired by Cafe Writing: Option 4
Use 3 of the following 8 words:
spring, change, virgin, dalliance, fertile, nature, oil, crank

The first day of spring was once the time for taking the young virgins into the fields, there in dalliance to set an example in fertility for nature to follow. Now we just set the clocks an hour ahead and change the oil in the crankcase.– E.B. White

From the virgin earth, early man took that which nature offered new each spring. Worshiping in thankfulness for the fertility of the world around them, they reaped the bountiful harvests provided by the blessings of respect.

But as in all dalliances, the mutuality of their relationship soon soured and changed. Worship became neglect, thankfulness became disregard, and humility became arrogance. What was once reaped in gratitude from that which was generous, is now raped in insolence; our rapaciousness never satisfied.

How long will her resources be renewable? How long until our disdain defeats us?

Earth is no longer a virgin and grows weary of her marriage with man.

It is time we recycled our relationship. It is time we renewed our respect.

with that my friend i am in absolute agreement... i feel we have to begin being thankful for that which we have been given,, and treating the planet on which we reside with the respect she deserves...

i do how ever feel that there are many profiteers who seek to empty our pockets in what they seem to see as a race to save the planet... one must use logic and common sense in making judgment as to what is real and what is imagined and what one really has the power to do...

and i do so want to know why the population explosion is never mentioned in conversation when we are discussing what can be done to bring our over usages down to a more manageable load... perhaps because that would not be a popular directive,, and no one would contribute to a party or organization that sought to enforce it???? hmmmmmmmm

I agree totally with Paisley's last posting. But going one step further, the Chinese did attempt to control population growth with ambiguous success.

Further ~ "Loose Leafs from a Commonplace" sounds so autumnal, reflective, symbolic of falling natural colours.

Great post!

So much to agree with here. Especially regarding the reality surrounding what is going on right now in the world and what each of us can do about it.

I do not trust the media or politicians. I cannot help but think there is always an agenda behind the rhetoric - an agenda that is not the publics.

I do however believe strongly in the concept of 'grass-roots' movements. If each of us choose to lessen the footprint we leave, it will all add together to make a larger impact.

True accountability begins at home.

Beautiful, critical and challenging all at once. You have "shown" not "told" how out of a natural balance we are, and how I so strongly feel. Thank you from Amy in Spain

Those are the lines I love the most from this piece. I think it helps that we all take a step back and renew and recycle the things around us, including restoring relationships. Those words resonate with me, and you captured it so poetically! :D
